July 6 – Czech betting operator Synot Tip has signed a sponsorship deal with Sparta Prague. The company will become the club’s main sponsor until at least 2017.

Daniel Kretnisky, the chief executive of the Prague-based side, said that over the past two years Sparta has had offers from other potential partners, but the offered terms were never satisfactory.

The financial terms of the contract were not disclosed. Synot Tip’s logo will appear on the team’s shirt.

Last year, Sparta unveiled plans to modernise its stadium and boost the stadium’s retail space revenue.

Under the plan, building work will being in the spring of 2016, and be completed by the end of 2018.

The stadium’s capacity will be decreased by 1,165 seats to a total of 18,251. This will enable the club to integrate 115,000 square metres of new retail space within the sports facility, and host a number of stores, a fitness club, a cinema, and residential space.

Sparta plays in the Synot Liga, the Czech Republic’s top tier. In the 2014/2015 season, the club came second, beaten by Viktoria Plzen.
