July 8 – Stomil Olsztyn and the city authorities in Olsztyn have launched a competition to select the design of its new stadium. The Polish side aims to fit its planned sports facility with a capacity of 12,000, according to the released technical requirements.

The club, which currently plays in the country’s second tier I Liga, estimates the project to be worth up to PLN 60 million (€14.5 million). The investment will be financed by Olsztyn city. Under the plan, the new design is to be selected by the end of this year, according to municipal authorities.

Meanwhile, the troubled club has been looking to bring in a new investor from the private sector with the aim of securing its financial position. The side has been struggling to stay afloat since local shopping mall Galeria Warminska withdrew as main sponsor.

Earlier this year, Robert Kildanowicz, the chief executive of the Olsztyn-based club, said that there is an entity interested in investing in the side on the condition that Stomil is transformed into a joint stock company.

In the 2014/2015 season of the I Liga, Stomil was ranked seventh out of the 18 sides competing in the Polish second tier.
