July 21 – Sunderland have announced a new partnership with Betfair who become the club’s official UK betting partner for the 2015-16 season.
Betfair will use the club’s platforms to connect with fans in the UK and their branding will appear in and around the ground on match days.
The Betfair deal comes just weeks after Sunderland took on AsianBGE’s Cagayan Economic Zone, Philippines-based Dafabet, as its principal partner and shirt sponsor in a three year deal.
A spokesman for Dafabet told Insideworldfootball: “We’re main club partners and are happy with the club having a UK/Ireland gaming partner. The fact Betfair is primarily an ‘exchange’ is also a factor and therefore not a direct competitor as such. Simply put we’re all for what’s good for the club.”
Sunderland AFC’s commercial director Gary Hutchinson welcomed Betfair to the Sunderland sponsor roster. “It is the fourth addition to the club’s partnership portfolio ahead of the 2015-16 season and we look forward to building a successful relationship with them, as we look to strengthen our stature both on and off the pitch,” he said
Stephen Mault, head of media, sponsorship and PR at Betfair, said: “We are thrilled to have signed a deal with Sunderland to become the club’s official UK Betting partner. Sunderland is a club with great heritage and we look forward to growing a successful relationship over the course of the upcoming season.”
Betfair, the world’s largest internet betting exchange, is headquartered in Hammersmith in London but operates under a Gibraltar license. The company has just been replaced as a regional betting partner of Liverpool FC by Marathonbet.
