July 23 – French clubs Olympique Lyon and Lille OSC are gearing up for the 2015/16 Ligue 1 season with new commercial deals. Lyon have teamed up with McDonald’s, while Lille have extended a deal with Groupe Partouche.
Last season both clubs had contrasting success. Lyon finished runners-up, eight points behind champions Paris Saint-Germain. Lille, three times French champions, underwhelmed in eighth and want to aim higher this season under the guidance of newly-appointed coach Herve Renard, who guided Ivory Coast to Nations Cup glory earlier this year.
Both clubs are also cementing their futures off the field.
Lille OSC have extended their sponsorship deal with casino operator Groupe Partouche into a 12th season. The Groupe Partouche logo will again be prominently displayed on Lille’s playing shirts. In the 2014/15 season Etixx, a pharmaceutical brand, was the main jersey sponsor. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Groupe Partouche operates 46 gaming facilities across France, as well as 21 hotels and 120 restaurants.
Lyon have struck a multiple-team deal with fast food giant McDonald’s, focusing on the chain’s restaurant in the city’s region. The partnership entails McDonald’s support for Lyon’s senior men’s and women’s teams for the next three years.
McDonald’s will receive signage at the Stade de Gerland stadium when Lyon play at home. The stadium is under construction and will host matches at next year’s EURO2016. McDonald’s is also a prime for that tournament.
Lille open the new season hosting PSG on August 7, a day later Olympique Lyon kick off their campaign at home to Lorient.
