OGC Nice are latest French club to deal in poker site Winamax

Winamax and Nice

July 27 – French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice have signed a sponsorship deal with online poker company Winamax. In a new one-year deal, running for the duration of the 2015/16 season, Winamax branding will appear on the front of Nice’s playing shorts. Winamax’s logo will feature for the first time during a friendly against Napoli on August 2.

The operator will also benefit from a branding presence around the club’s Allianz Riviera stadium as well as activities on Nice’s website and social media channels.

The new stadium has helped Nice become an established top flight club and will host matches during EURO2016. Nice finished the 2014/15 Ligue 1 season in 11th. The club will look to consolidate this mid-table position this season, which starts on August 8 with a local derby against AS Monaco.

The financial details of the Winnamax deal were not released, but Nice is believed to be pocketing a low six-figure sum.

“We are happy to welcome Winamax among our partners for the season to come,” said OGC Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivère. “We can congratulate ourselves to have the confidence of a market leader, who was able to see Nice as a club in a phase of development.”

The deal comes after Winamax this month struck a similar deal with Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille. Winamax already had a deal in place with Girondins de Bordeaux before that.

French football has been keen on gambling sponsorships, last week Lille teamed up with the Partouche group, which owns casinos across France.
