August 7 – German second tier Bundesliga club 1.FC Kaiserslautern has signed a new sponsorship contract with financial services firm Maxda Darlehensvermittlungs GmbH. The deal, which will see the firm become the club’s main sponsor for a one-year period, is estimated to be worth a total of €1.4 million.
Under the contract, Maxda’s logo will appear on the squad’s shirt, as well as on advertising boards at the stadium.
The club’s Fritz-Walter-Stadion has a total capacity of 49,780, which includes 34,354 seats and 15,426 standing places. The sports facility in Kaiserslautern hosted a number of matches played at the 2006 World Cup. From 2002 to 2005, the stadium was modernised as part of a €76.5 million project.
In the 2014/2015 season of the 2. Bundesliga, 1.FC Kaiserslautern finished fourth out of the 18 teams in the lease. The club has a strong tradition having win the German championship in 1951, 1953, 1991 and 1998.
The side was relegated to the 2. Bundesliga following the 2011/2012 season, and since then has been struggling to return to the German top tier.
