Hertha bus shot, no-one hurt

Hertha Berlin bullet

August 10 – Police in Germany are investigating an unprovoked attack on a Bundesliga team bus which was on its way to pick up players travelling to an away game.

The bus was fired at by a motorcyclist in Bielefeld in north-west Germany but no-one was injured.

Several German newspapers quoted Hertha Berlin’s sporting director Michael Preetz as saying the driver was alone in the bus when an unidentified assailant on a motorbike opened fire.

“We are deeply shocked and hope that the perpetrators will be caught. Luckily our bus driver got away with just a fright,” Preetz said.

He said the driver was on the way to Bielefeld train station to pick up the team who had travelled to the city by train. Hertha were staying near Bielefeld before their first-round tie with German second division side Arminia Bielefeld tonight (Monday).

Hertha posted an image of a bullet hole in the bus windscreen, with the caption: “Unbelievable! Our team bus was shot at on the way to a German Cup match. Luckily no one was injured.”
