August 28 – FC Schalke 04 has inked a new sponsorship deal with Turkish Airlines. The deal, which is estimated to be worth a total of €1.4 million, will see the airlinesupport the Gelsenkirchen-based side for two years.

The latest deal follows the signing of a sponsorship contract between Schalke 04 and electronics retailer Media Markt. Turkish Airlines will secure a presence with stadium advertising including branding rights on Schalke’s LED boards, and in all of the club’s media activities, including its online and TV platforms.

The deal marks the signing of another contract between Turkish Airlines and a German Bundesliga side. The air carrier’s three-year deal with Borussia Dortmund, with whom Schalke 04 has a long-standing rivalry, is reportedly worth a total of €10 million. This contract was signed in May 2013, building on the club’s success in securing the German championship in 2010 and 2011.

In the 2014/2015 season of the 1. Bundesliga, Schalke 04 finished the league in sixth out of the 18 teams.

The side’s Veltins Arena was opened in 2001, and it “regularly attracts a full house of 61,973 spectators”, according to Schalke 04.
