September 15 – Romanian government authorities have launched the construction of a new stadium for CS Universitatea Craiova. The build will cost about €50 million, and will see the Romanian side move to a new stadium with a seating capacity of 30,854.
“The construction works on the new stadium will take 14 months and two weeks. This means that, in the second half of next year, it should be ready,” said Mayor of Craiova Lia Olguta Vasilescu, as reported by local news site Administratie.ro.
Under the plan, the sports facility will be fitted with 624 seats for the media, 222 seats for handicapped people, and 2,186 seats in the VIP sector. In addition to this, the stadium’s parking facility will be enabled to accommodate some 1,200 vehicles, including 74 buses and special vehicles.
Construction works on the facility, which is located on a site of 76,971 square metres, are to be carried out by local construction company CON-A. This year, the investment will total about €10.2 million, or slightly more than 20% of the total amount.
CS Universitatea Craiova currently competes in the Liga I, the top tier of Romania’s professional football league.
