Gerrard turns out for BT Sport, but returns to get ‘real’ at Salt Lake

Gerrard on BT Sport

September 20 – Steven Gerrard’s commitment to LA Galaxy has came under scrutiny in the last week as he missed training ahead of an important weekend fixture. Gerrard returned to the UK and was in London doing punditry for the BT Sport channel during the midweek European Champions League fixtures.

Resultantly, he missed part of the preparations for LA Galaxy’s fixture against Real Salt Lake this weekend.

Some fans have taken a disapproving stance to his 1,100-mile round-trip mid-season, particularly in light of his $6 million per annum salary, and the skepticism toward his commitment has been fuelled by his circulated admittance that he could still have been at Liverpool now as a squad player if he had been offered a supplementary coaching or management role.

However, in his defense, he had always disclosed that “there might be an odd occasion where I need to go back for the games” in order to fulfill his contractual obligations with BT Sport.

The sporadic surfacing of suspicions about Gerrard’s commitment is somewhat analogous to the difficulties David Beckham had when he initially joined LA Galaxy.

Beckham ultimately earned the respect of the loyal Galaxy fans after turning in quality performances, something that one would expect Gerrard is equally capable of doing.
