September 22 – FIFA reports that construction at it’s FIFA World Football Museum in Zurich is running according to plan and that the museum will open in the first quarter of 2016.
Work began on the site in March 2014. The build has now moved to the interior of the museum with fitting-out work currently being undertaken on all three exhibition levels to install the background technology for what will be more than 1,000 exclusive exhibits.
The museum will have 60 interactive screens, and the installation of a unique pinball machine that is described as “particularly challenging”.
The idea for an official FIFA football museum in Zurich has been a long time in planning and did have to overcome some initial local resistance in Zurich concerning the site location near the centre of Zurich.
FIFA president Sepp Blatter has been a strong supporter of the project saying: ” We are creating a special meeting place, because the FIFA World Football Museum will bring shared memories and emotions to life, and therefore bring the whole international football family together.”
The start of the interior fitting-out phase means that the FIFA World Football Museum has now entered the home straight. “It is great that work has finally begun on the inside of the museum,” said Stefan Jost, CEO of FIFA Museum AG. “Everything that we have only known from plans so far is now beginning to take shape.”
Work on the interior of the museum is expected to be completed at the end of October, when an intensive test phase will begin for all areas of the museum. The exhibition area will measure more than 3,000m2 with interactive experiences on all three levels.
