September 23 – DHL, the world’s leading logistics provider, has agreed a sponsorship deal with the Indian Super League, India’s premier professional football championship, for the upcoming 2015 season.
DHL will become the Official Logistics and Timing Partner for the Hero Indian Super League 2015. No figure was announced for the one-year deal.
As the Official Logistics Partner, DHL will deliver back-end logistics support for the ISL 2015 season. DHL also announced the ‘DHL Winning Pass’ Award per team, which will recognise players who contributed the highest number of assists during the tournament, creating opportunities for their team to score goals.
“Globally, DHL has a long history of supporting professional football leagues across the world,” said DHL vice-president RS Subramanian (pictured centre). “We are partners with Manchester United, one of the world’s biggest football clubs, FC Bayern Munich and the Copa América.
“DHL delivers the Rugby World Cup 2015 and recently partnered with the Chinese Football Association Super League,” added Subramanian. Our partnership with ISL further strengthens our commitment to the sport and support to Indian football players to compete internationally.”
Last year the introduction of the ISL was a big hit in Indian football. The league operates with franchises, built around aging global superstars and with a number of big name coaches. The spectator response was encouraging, with an average attendance of 26,000 and a television audience of some 400 million viewers. Atletico de Kolkata became the inaugural champion of the ISL after beating Kerala Blasters in the final 1-0.
The 2015 ISL will kick off its second season on October 3. The final will be played in Goa on December 20.
