Ticketing shambles sparks violence and UEFA charges for England and Lithuania

England fans in Lithuania

October 14 – England’s achievement in securing a 100% record with 10 straight wins during Euro 2016 qualifying has been marred by being charged by UEFA over crowd disturbances at their final fixture in Luthuania on Monday.

The hosts have also been charged after police had to step in to stop skirmishes between rival fans behind one of the goals just before kick-off in England’s 3-0 win in Vilnius.

Lithuania’s FA has also been charged over breaches of ticketing rules and for having blocked stairways. The cases will be dealt with on October 22.

Some England fans appeared to have purchased tickets for sections of the ground designated for home supporters.
