October 29 – The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has signed a deal with sports data provider Sportradar to set up a football management system allowing it to better manage its leagues, data collection and distribution.

Under the terms of the partnership, Sportradar will provide a Federation Management Platform, which includes three tools:

– A Federation Management Tool giving FAM the ability to configure, plan and manage leagues, tournaments, schedules and venues and manage competition and match-related personnel, including players and referees.

– A Data Collection Tool which will allow FAM to administer its leagues from desktops and mobile devices, to generate extensive tables, statistics and top lists and to provide comprehensive and automated match commentary including post-match editing and offline data collection.

– A Data Visualisation and Commercialisation Tool which will assist the FAM in distributing game data across widgets and social media.

Sportradar CEO Carsten Koerl (pictured right) commented on the system saying: “Our goal is establish the Federation Management Platform as the go-to platform for sporting federations across the world. It combines a number of areas that we, as company, excel at and allows us to provide a joined-up solution that makes life easier for rights holders but also maximises their existing assets. But all innovative products need a first user who has the ambition and imagination to see and grab the opportunity.”

Deputy President of the FAM, Dato Seri Affendi Hamzah (pictured centre) said: “We have been patient, surveying the market for an organisation that can really offer us a comprehensive, intuitive and powerful proposition in the field of data collection and leveraging. The world of sports data is an exciting one and we had to be sure that we were partnering with the best. With today’s partnership, not only is FAM embarking on a journey, but so are our fans and various stakeholders. What Sportradar can do is bring our data to life in a way that will excite and engage everyone who holds Malaysian football dear, whether at home or abroad.”

Sportsradar also announced it had secured a new strategic partnership with US investment group Revolution Growth, under which well-known personalities from the NHL and NBA including Ted Leonsis, Evan Morgan, Mark Cuban and Michael Jordan will be joining the Sportradar US board. The deal with Revolution Growth is understood to include $44 million (€38.7 million) in funding.
