October 30 – Manchester City are supporting an ‘Innovation in Sport’ competition launched by Ideas Britain via its app which connects young people with great ideas to expert business coaches and brands.
Competitors invited to submit their entries via the app in a national competition that aims to uncover creative ideas that have the potential to forge real innovation in the world of sport and beyond.
The winning entry will receive £40,000 from Creative England, while for others there are one-on-one mentoring and incubation opportunities with elite Ideas Britain coaches. Manchester City will arrange bespoke work experience opportunities for ideas across their innovation network.
Entrants submit their concepts in 30 seconds on to the Ideas Britain app and winners will be announced in mid-January. Ideas are welcomed from across the board, be they technical solutions such as harnessing the power of big data to drive performance, practical ideas to modify sports kits, or big picture projects using sport for good.
Adam Shaw, Founder and CEO of Ideas Britain, said: “Ideas Britain uses a technology, gaming mechanics and design that young people are familiar with. The app allows anyone with an idea to have a go in a fun and social way, irrespective of their background, and access lots of opportunities and a network of contacts.
“Ideas Britain represents the first time young people can, in an app, connect to people with the knowledge and reach to turn ideas into world-beaters. With Ideas Britain we believe we have levelled the ideas playing field in an age of super-connectivity.
“The brands and coaches we work with can instantly provide the kind of support, connections and work experience opportunities that are unattainable for your average youngster.
“Everyone is now invited to submit ideas onto our app and we look forward to driving and supporting a new generation of UK entrepreneurs.”
Manchester City Council and Street Games are also part of initiative. Sir Richard Leese, leader of Manchester City Council, said: “Aligning the first Ideas Britain competition with sport builds upon Manchester’s position as a globally recognised sporting city and I hope that Manchester can become the home of the first winner of the Ideas Britain competition.”
Manchester City is forcing its way into the elite of world clubs by its unique and expansive business philosophy, backed up Abu Dhabi funding. Key to its future will be the switch over from reliance on investor money to self-generated funds, a process that the club has rapidly accelerated through its own commercial acitivities and a concept that is at the entrepreneurial heart of Ideas Britain.
