November 13 – Premier League football has mirrored an overall trend of a slight drop in activity in recent weeks. But Man Utd continued their inexhaustible assault on the summit of being the English club with the most twitter followers, having overtaken Chelsea and are now chasing down Arsenal.
Comparing the last four weeks to the previous four weeks there has been a 7 % decrease in tweets made by Premier League clubs and an identical 7% decrease in new followers.
On the positive side – the numbers of followers are still increasing in real terms and so the fan base is still there and taking a very active part in marketing for Premier League clubs.
Over the past four weeks, Manchester United have closed the gap on Arsenal to only a 236,000 difference (2.39 %). Man Utd had over 174,0000 new followers in this period compared to Arsenal’s 112,000. It is possible Man Utd will overtake Arsenal by the end of the season.
The difference between Chelsea and Arsenal is ever widening and is now at 4.64%. Similarly the distance between Chelsea and Man Utd is widening and now stands at 2.3%.
It was only in the week ending 2 October that Man Utd overtook Chelsea.
