Euro2016 hots up with tickets on sale and biggest ever prize money unveiled

December 14 – Tickets for the Euro 2016 finals went on sale this morning following the draw of the championship schedule in Paris on Saturday. 800,000 tickets are on sale to fans in this window which closes January 18.

UEFA says this is the final opportunity for fans to buy tickets. They will be notified if they have been successful in their applications by the end of February.

Ticketing options include single tickets for one match in one stadium, as well as ‘Follow my team’ tickets for several matches, including conditional tickets for the knockout stages if the fan’s national team progresses. There are also disabled tickets for all stadia.

Prize money winners
Last Friday UEFA announced its prize money schedule for the tournament, its highest ever, making it more lucrative than FIFA’s World Cup for teams by almost £10 million.

UEFA is boosting total prize money £218.1 million, up from £156 million in 2012 and £145.9 million in 2008. A team that wins every game to taking the title will earn £18.1 million. The least a team will take home is the £5.8 million participation fee.

The prize money (in euros) splits as follows:

Participating fee: €8 million
Group win: €1 million
Group draw: €500,000
Round of 16: €1.15 million (win or lose)
Quarter finals: €2.5 million (win or lose)
Semi-finals: €4 million (win or lose)
Runners-up: €5 million
Champions: €8 million
