January 25 – Bulgarian club Litex Lovech’s entire results for the season have been scrapped as punishment for its players walking off in protest at refereeing decisions in a match at Levski Sofia last month.
The decision means champions Ludogorets, champions in the last four campaigns, are now five points clear of Levski who would have been level before Friday’s ruling and are fuming at the Bulgarian FA’s ruling.
“Levski will appeal the decision in all legal ways,” a club statement said. The championship resumes in February following a mid-season break.
Litex, one of most successful clubs in Bulgaria over the last two decades with four league titles and four domestic cups since 1998, became the third club to be thrown out of the country’s top division in the last seven months.
CSKA Sofia, Bulgaria’s most successful club with 31 league titles, and city rivals Lokomotiv had already been denied licences due to their huge debts and relegated to the amateur leagues.
