January 27 – Premier League Tottenham Hotspur whose stadium redevelopment is central to the economic regeneration of the area around its White Hart Lane stadium, has launched a training scheme for unemployed people funded by a grant from the StubHub Foundation.
The Tottenham Hotspur Pre-Apprenticeship Scheme, will be delivered by the Club’s Foundation in partnership with StubHub, and “will provide 16-24 year olds from North London with the skills, knowledge and experience needed to secure an apprenticeship or future work”, said a club statement.
The StubHub Foundation has provided a £50,000 grant to fund the two-year programme.
The programme will see 100 individuals take part in a 12-week placement which will include a mixture of hands-on work experience at the club’s community projects and classroom-based training. Tottenham Hotspur Foundation’s employment and skills team will lead the project.
Classroom activity will focus on learning to write personal statements, building a CV and picking up best-practice interview techniques. Once the course has finished participants will continue to receive one-to-one mentoring support until a suitable apprenticeship, training or employment opportunity has been secured.
Spurs have launched a number of community initiatives that have helped create more than 3,000 job opportunities, while 100 young people have been offered apprenticeships.
