February 10 – Nine-year-old George Shaw has beaten the likes of Ross Barkley, Aaron Lennon, and Kevin Mirallas to win Everton’s January goal of the month competition.

The nine-year-old won the hearts of football fans around the world as he scored a goal at half time in the game between Everton and Swansea.

George has cerebral palsy and it was his dream to score at Goodison Park.

This dream was made a reality last month as George slotted the ball home whilst being cheered by thousands at the Gwladys Street End. It has now been named Everton’s goal of the month for January.

Speaking about the winning goal George said: “I thought I’d come close because of all the support I’ve had but I can’t believe I’ve won! Thank you to everyone who voted”

George’s feat was a very special one and shows how the football in community can be brought together.

Last season Celtic Super-fan Jay Beatty won the SPFL goal of the month award for January after taking home nearly 97% of the vote.

The 11-year-old who has Down’s syndrome scored a penalty at half time in the game between Celtic and Hamilton.
