March 14 – Liverpool have unveiled a series of artist impressions of facilities that will be available in their Main Stand which opens later this year.
The new stand will add more than 8,000 capacity to the Anfield stadium but has already caused controversy when the release of ticket fans sparked a backlash and walkout over the premium prices of tickets – £77 was the top price.
The US owners, Fenway Sports Group, quickly stepped into the row and defused the situation with an apology and a reduction of pricing levels to nearer current prices.
The latest visuals showcase the plans for two new concourses, which will be the biggest at Anfield and will provide space for fans to gather before the game.
The Main Stand will comprise three tiers, a widened player tunnel, new team benches, media platform, wheelchair viewing positions and state-of-the-art facilities for fans inside.
The design celebrates Liverpool fans and their passion for the Club, with a colour scheme based on the club’s colours and materials reflecting Anfield’s architecture and the city of Liverpool’s industrial and maritime heritage. Concourse wall graphics reflect the history of the Club, with lettering used in the style of old matchday programmes.
