March 29 – With England preparing for their game against Holland tonight at Wembley, Premier League clubs will be preparing for another bumper set of attendances this coming weekend after figures for round 31 of fixtures set a season high average attendance of 97.51% – beating the opening day figure of 97.36%.
Top of the weekly chart was Newcastle United, who have spent most of the season near the bottom, reflecting their league position. But passion for their football club in Geordieland is never far below the surface and especially when it comes to the derby with Sunderland. There were just 94 unfilled seats in St James Park.
Chelsea again turned in outstanding attendance capacity figures, as did Spurs, indicating yet again that their stadium expansion plans can’t come soon enough to fulfill the demand for tickets.
All ten home teams in the Premier League recorded more than 90% of their stadium capacity being filled, with only one below 95% – West Brom at 93.26%.
There were just 7,296 unfilled seats in the 10 Premier League grounds in the weekend before the international break. Though with Aston Villa playing at home this coming weekend against Chelsea, there will likely be this number of seats available in Villa Park for anyone interested in taking in a Premier League match.
