Clash of the giants: CL draw separates Spanish but will Pep have the last word

UEFA Champions League

April 15 – Will Pep Guardiola’s final game in charge of Bayern Munich be against the team he is leaving them for at the end of the season?

Or will it be a second all-Madrid final in the past three years?

Both possibilities were kept alive today Bayern were drawn to play Atletico Madrid in one semifinal of the Champions League with Real Madrid paired with Manchester City in the other.

Guardiola will replace current City boss Manuel Pellegrini, who has steered the club to their first ever Champions League semifinal and will be keen to prove a point, in the summer,  one of a number of intriguing elements in a mouth-watering draw.

The first legs will take place on April 26-27 with the return legs on May 3-4, with the final takes place at Milan’s San Siro Stadium on May 28.

Liverpool’s reward, if you can call it that, for their incredible comeback against tournament favourites Borussia Dortmund in the quarterfinals of the Europa League is a semifinal tie against Villarreal, with the advantage of second leg once again at Anfield.  But an all-Spanish final is also on the cards with Seville, hoping to become the first team to win the trophy three times in succession, up against Shakhtar Donetsk.

The draw for both competitions also means that theoretically four Spanish clubs could contest the respective finals, with Sevilla and Villarreal kept apart in Europa League semis.
