ISDE launches sports masters course with FC Barcelona

April 27 – Spain-based ISDE (Institute of Higher Learning in Law and Economics) has launched a masters course in sports management and legal skills that will be run from its Barcelona offices but also linking with the city’s football club FCB Barcelona.

The course is aimed at business and law graduates with a curriculum tailored to the football and sports business. Taught in English, it will provide foundational instruction on the sports industry combined with specific training in sports (accounting, finance, marketing, personnel management and analytics) and law (intellectual property law and alternative dispute resolution).

After successfully completing their coursework, students will be placed as interns, from 3- 6-months, within sports governing bodies, agencies, teams, leagues, law firms or regulatory bodies, based on their academic profile and personal aims. The cost of the course is €26,000.

ISDE is a predominantly legally focused educational institution that was founded by leading Spanish and international law firms to create a centre for legal studies and pathway for integration of new lawyers into firms. Currently more than 200 law firms from nearly 50 countries form part of the ISDE project.

Its academic alliances include a partnership with the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, as well as joint programs with Spanish universities such as Carlos III and Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid, and overseas universities such as Columbia University in the City of New York, Levin College of Law – University of Florida, and Wolfson College – University of Cambridge. It is the only Spanish institution with official masters programmes in the U.S. recognised by the American Bar Association.

ISDE boasts a job placement rate close to 90% for graduates of its programmes, as well as the highest pass rates for the new Spanish bar exam, at 100%.

With its broad base of educational partners ISDE also has access to the sports business and includes as part of the course “networking events and practical workshops held at leading law firms and sports organisations such as FIFA, UEFA, CONCACAF, WADA, NBA, NFL, Major League Soccer, JD League, Chinese Olympic Committee.”

The involvement of FC Barcelona adds a practical element to the course as well as an endorsement. Some classes will be taught at the club and it will also host the graduation ceremony.
