June 1 – It looks like being the only way to get tanked during the Euro 2016 tournament without fear of arrest for drunken behaviour or terrorist activity. World of Tanks has launched its Tank Football 2016 video game in time for the Euros.
The special in-game event Tank Football 2016 will kick off June 10 and will be played for the month of the Euros.
3-vs-3 teams compete to score the most goals in a seven-minute match. With no feet, players must use their tank’s gun to blast the ball around the pitch and into the opponent’s net. During Tank Football 2016, all players will be credited the unique T-62a Sport (T-62a S) with a free Garage slot – presumably the tank and gaming equivalent of an on-form Cristiano Ronaldo.
During matches, tanks will be incapable of damaging or destroying another vehicle but players can shoot the tracks of opponents’ tank and ram their vehicle to immobilise them. A special Turbocharger (an additional paid item in the game) will temporarily speed up any slow-paced tanks in your line-up.
A Euros tank football tournament will be held with registrations starting June 1 and lasting until June 15. All you have to do is build a team of three players and then blast anything that moves (old school English and Dutch defensive approaches look like a good strategy). The four best teams get one year of Premium Account time and a Type 59 tank for each member. They will also have the chance to compete against the 4 best CIS teams for a chunk of a $5,000 prize pool.
There are three stadiums available to play in: Himmelsdorf Arena, Stade Eiffel, and Old Tankford. The game will also let players tackle new battle missions; go it alone or platoon with up to three teammates. You can even deck your tank out with a range of customisation emblems and flags of the countries taking part in this summer’s major European football event – Scots need not download this part of the game, though we do see this nationalistic feature being popular in Croatia.
World of Tanks is a team-based multiplayer online action game dedicated to armored warfare of the mid-20th century. The game has an arsenal (weaponry, not Wenger’s lot) of 450 armored vehicles from the United States, Germany, the Soviet Union, France, Great Britain, Japan, China, and Czechoslovakia.
Presumably Chinese tanks are allowed into the Euros version due to their increasing acquisition of the European club game, while the US are in there because no-one would be allowed to play otherwise.
