July 25 – Greg Clarke (pictured) is poised to become the new chairman of the English Football Association after being nominated for the position by the organisation’s board in succession to the outspoken and often controversial Greg Dyke who has stepped down after three years.
Clarke will step up from the same role he successfully occupied at the Football League with a key role in pulling together the various factions of English football together as well as building bridges with FIFA.
Clarke, who has a distinguished business career, spent six years at the Football League and previously served as chairman at Leicester, where he worked alongside current FA chief executive Martin Glenn.
‘This is a very important moment for English football and I hope to play my part in building on the progress seen in many key areas in recent times,” said Clarke
‘I know all about the challenges we face and I am confident we are on a sound footing. I have a strong sense of purpose about what needs to happen next.”
His appointment will be endorsed at a full FA Council meeting on August 24.
