July 26 – Liverpool and Sevilla have both been punished relating to crowd trouble at last season’s Europa League final in Basel.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have been fined €16,000 for an “illicit banner and the setting off of fireworks” while Sevilla, who triumphed 3-1 to claim a third straight Europa League crown, were slapped with a €17,000 fine for crowd disturbances and throwing objects.
Police intervention was required to stop scuffles between both sets of fans, who were poorly segregated at one end of the St Jakob-Park stadium.
UEFA were critcised in the wake of the final for choosing a venue with a capacity of just 35,000 but that is not unusual for Europa League finals.
