August 11 – Just when the crunch came, Brazil delivered. After being booed off twice in a row following goalless draws against South Africa and Iraq, Brazil’s Olympic squad finally found their scoring touch as they cruised to a 4-0 win over Denmark that not only ensured survival but also clinched top spot in Group A and a quarter-final against Colombia in Sao Paulo on Saturday.
“I’d be lying if I didn’t say it wasn’t a relief,” said striker Gabriel Jesus who scored Brazil’s second goal. “Today we had more spirit and we made it easy in the end.”
Coach Rogerio Micale opted for all-out attack against the Danes and commented: “We haven’t won anything. It’s another psychological point passed. We work bit by bit and we’ll get there.”

Mexico crashed out after Kwon Chang-hoon’s 77th minute goal gave South Korea a 1-0 win while Honduras knocked out Argentina on penalties. South Korea lead the Asian Football Confederation challenge for medals, topping their group over Germany.
