December 1 – Merchandise sales of Bundesliga clubs increased by €17 million to €243 million in the 2015-16 season, according to PR Marketing’s 19th Fanartikel-Barometer.
With Bundesliga focus on improving its TV sales contracts, identified last week at Bayern Munich’s AGM as being below market rates for other leagues in Europe, the merchandise sales are a positive indication of an appetite for the Bundesliga.
The 18 Bundesliga teams improved merchandise sales voulumes by 8% over the 2014-15 season with revenue increasing by 7.2% over the €226.1 million figure in 2014-15.
The increase was not confined to the top flight. In the 2nd Bundesliga, the 18 teams generated €31.3 million from merchandise sales. This is an increase of €3.8 million or 17.6% over 2014-15.
Combined, the top two divisions increased merchandise sales €21 million or 8.3% in 2015-16. However, PR Marketing pointed out that this was the lowest increase in merchandise sales for the past five years.
