Maradona offers himself to Russia, but some overtures are rejected

July 5 – Diego Maradona is at it again, stirring up controversy with outlandish comments and prompting all manner of media headlines.

According to some reports, Maradona, who went to Russia for the Confederation Cup final, is considering taking out Russian citizenship and has praised Vladimir Putin as someone who can bring peace to the planet.

The Argentine legend, whose tenure as coach of his national team between 2008 and 2010 was widely considered to be a failure, also expressed interest in doing the same job with Russia.

Meantime, a Russian journalist has accused Maradona of sexual harassment.

The claim was made in an interview with Life.ru following the Confederations Cup final.

Ekaterina Nadolskaya says she went to Maradona’s hotel room in St Petersburg in order to conduct an interview but claims Maradona tried to remove her dress.

Maradona’s lawyer has denied all the allegations while aides of the retired football icon were reported as claiming that Nadolskaya was the one who began to undress, prompting Maradona to call hotel security in order to have her removed.
