July 27 – Ten of the 13 Chinese Super League clubs threatened with being banned next season say they have cleared their debts.

The Chinese Football Association (CFA) wrote to all but three of the country’s 16 top-flight clubs, as well as five lower-league teams following a similar move by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), which wrote to the CFA stating that clubs had until 31 August to clear all outstanding payments or face exclusion from next year’s Asian Champions League.

Ten of the 13 clubs contacted by the CFA say they all up to date with payments on transfers and salaries.

Chinese football authorities have recently cracked down on spending with new transfer rules and a ‘tax’ on big money buys from overseas, as well as penalties for loss-making clubs and a limitation on foreign players.
