September 1 – Real Madrid has teamed up with GoPro to produce an eight-part behind the scenes documentary – Hala Madrid – that will broadcast on Facebook’s new Watch video platform in the US.
Real Madrid, with 105 million Facebook likes, is the largest football club on the social media platform and has already been airing its Real Madrid TV content on Facebook Live. In August the club broadcast its match against Fiorentina on Facebook Live. It has been viewed over 4.3 million times.
Facebook’s Watch is the next level broadcast platform currently being tested by the technology giant.
“The series will give fans rare behind-the-scenes access to the true essence of Real Madrid and the deep connection the club shares with its players, city and fans. Viewers will get a 360-degree view of the organization, including closer looks at its storied history, pristine training facilities, star power on the pitch and loyal fan base across the globe,” said a club press release.
The eight-episode series saw dozens of GoPro cameras set up at the team’s training facilities to provide a look into the club’s connection with its city, fans and players.
The first episode was posted Monday, and new episodes will be available Saturdays starting September 9. Orlando Bloom narrates the series.
Rafael de los Santos, Global Digital Director for Real Madrid, said: “We believe this series will not only resonate with these Real Madrid fans, but will also be interesting to the millions of people around the world who consume content on Facebook.”
It may also open the way to testing the market for a new generation of TV broadcast deals as well as pushing Facebook ever-closer to the OTT broadcast market that is becoming increasingly interesting to rights holders.
