November 1 – War-ravaged Somalia is celebrating the prospect of having its own federation premises after having operated in rented offices for over half a century.New headquarters are being built on a portion of land that was recently donated to the federation by the Ministry for Youth and Sport, with an application for funding to be made to FIFA for the new base which is expected to be completed next year.
“The construction of this new headquarters will end more than half a century that Somali Football Federation has been serving in rented offices,” said SFF president Abdiqani Said Arab (pictured left). “This will be the first building owned by the federation in its whole history.”
Last month, Somalia staged its first floodlit evening game for the first time in more than 30 years in the capital Mogadishu, one of the world’s most dangerous cities.
