Man City to head to US for pre-season, ICC and a Soccer Festival in LA

February 5 –  Manchester City have become the first of Europe’s big clubs to confirm they will be playing in the International Champions Cup (ICC) tournament this summer in the US.

Man City will also play sister club New York City FC in New York though it is not clear if this will be part of the ICC competition or not.

Played in July, predominantly in the US but with an Asian off-shoot and some games in Europe, the ICC has become the major pre-season tournament for Europe’s elite clubs. Last summer Man City played Man Utd, losing 2-0 in Houston before beating Real Madrid 4-1 in Los Angeles and Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 in Nashville.

The 2018 tour is sponsored by Visit Abu Dhabi.

As part of the US visit the club will host the ‘Manchester City Soccer Festival’ in Los Angeles on July 23. Soccer fans are invited to test their skills across a range of games and challenges, including Manchester City’s new soccer skills challenge competition, SkillCity, presented by the club’s sleeve sponsor Nexen.

To announce the tour the club sent defender Benjamin Mendy to the Rockefeller Center in New York last week.

More details on matches and locations are expected in the coming weeks.
