Brasileirão clubs reject VAR over costs and lack of confidence in system

February 6 – Brazil’s top division has rejected implementing video technology both because of cost and uncertainty over the system’s consistency.

Of the 20 top-flight clubs, 12 voted against the VAR system which continues to cause widespread differences of opinion and will be put to the vote by football’s lawmakers next month.

Only in the domestic Cup at some stage of the competition will VARs be trialled in Brazil, at least until after the World Cup next summer when Brazilian officials want to judge its effectiveness if it is used.
