Mastercard becomes 4th UEFA Champions League renewal for 2018-21 cycle

February 9 – Mastercard have become the fifth sponsor to sign up for the 2018-21 cycle of UEFA Champions League rights, following on from the announcement earlier this week that PepsiCo were renewing their deal with the top level of club competition in Europe.

The Mastercard renewal is the fourth time they have extended their partnership with the Champions League that began in 1994. The new agreement also includes sponsorship rights for the UEFA Super Cup in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

Mastercard is the exclusive payments partner for the Champions League and has activated its sponsorship in the last cycles through offering money-can’t-buy experiences to fans. Mastercard will continue to offer children the opportunity to become Player Mascots.

Guy-Laurent Epstein, UEFA Events SA Marketing Director, said: “Longevity is instrumental in building successful partnerships, and we are delighted to extend our relationship with Mastercard. Partnering with a global brand such as Mastercard presents many benefits and opportunities for UEFA and we are excited about continuing our excellent relationship over the coming years. As an industry leading technology company, we look forward to further collaboration with Mastercard, as the role of digital becomes increasingly important in building deeper connections with global audiences.”

As well as PepsiCo, Heineken and Nissan have both renewed their sponsorships for the 2018-21 cycle. Santander has joined as a new partner. No values have been given for any of the sponsorship;

Javier Pérez, President Mastercard Europe, said: “As we enjoy our 24th year as an official sponsor, we are excited to witness new priceless moments at this year’s UEFA Champions League Final in Kyiv. Looking forward to ‘Start Something Priceless’ for at least another three years!”
