February 17 – Reigning French Ligue 1 champions AS Monaco, currently in second place in the championship behind Paris St Germain, have appointed digital agency Seven League to drive the club’s global digital strategy.
The club from the Monaco principality have had a rollercoaster ride over the last 30 years returning to the top end of French football under the majority ownership of Russian Dmitry Rybolovlev who acquired 66.67% in December 2011.
Then in Ligue 2, the club won promotion to Ligue 1 in the 2012/13 season and in 2013 were one of the biggest spenders on players in Europe, spending roughly £140 million, including a club-record £50 million for Radamel Falcao.
This gave the club the resource to compete with the nouveau riche of Paris St Germain, culminating in the league championship last season.
The club is now looking to capitalise on its increased profile and build an international following with Seven League spearheading that push digitally.
Vadim Vasilyev, Monaco CEO, said: “Since the beginning of our project, we have been working hard to bring our digital communication media to a high level. Today we think that we need to move forward. It is important for us to place innovation first in our engagement and we believe that Seven League will allow us to do so while keeping growing.”
Seven League has worked with a number of leagues and clubs including UEFA, the English Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur, FC Barcelona, Juventus, Newcastle United, and Leicester City.
Richard Ayers, CEO of Seven League, said: “We look forward to using our vast experience in auditing, benchmarking, strategy and innovation to help this world-renowned club grow its audience and its revenue.”
