March 1 – A normalisation committee imposed in Cameroon by FIFA to try and bring an end to years of internal rifts has reportedly been extended for another six months.
Continuation of the mandate, originally put in place last August, was confirmed locally by FIFA’s African and Caribbean Regional Director Veron Mosengo-Omba, a member of the five-man body, in order for Cameroon FA (Fecafoot) elections to take place and revised statutes to be put in place.
FIFA briefly suspended Cameroon in 2013 for government interference in FECAFOOT, then also set up a normalisation committee to run its affairs.
A hotly contested election in 2015 was subsequently annulled by the Cameroon National Sports and Olympic Committee’s arbitration chamber.
Despite the off-field problems, Cameroon won last year’s African Nations Cup, beating Egypt 2-1 in the final.
