LA takes a step closer to securing a happy ending and inclusion in 2026 United bid

March 1 – Los Angeles’ hopes of being one of the host cities for the 2026 World Cup should the US-led bid win the vote appears to be back on track.

Last month Alex Comisar, spokesman for LA Mayor Eric Garcetti, said the United Bid Committee, which represents the USA-Mexico-Canada joint bid, had extended the deadline until later this month for Los Angeles to be part of the show.

Reports from LA said at the time that city bosses were uncomfortable about the financial risks related to staging games at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena

The United Bid Committee must submit its formal bid book by mid-March and fresh reports from LA say financial worries have been eased by the formation of a group of local sports companies calling itself Los Angeles World Cup 2026 Host Committee, LLC, bidding on behalf of Inglewood, Pasadena and Los Angeles.

“This will be a rousing success,” City Councilman Paul Koretz, who voted to back the bid, was quoted as saying. “I don’t see the danger.”
