Micciche takes over Serie A presidency after a brief courtship in interim role

March 20 – Gaetano Micciche has been confirmed as the new president of the Serie A after stepping into the post temporarily less than two weeks ago.

But the Italian federation still remains rudderless and under emergency leadership following Carlo Tavecchio’s resignation in the wake of Italy’s failure to qualify for the World Cup. That post remains unfilled as does the need for a new national coach.

Micciche, who heads the IMI investment bank and takes over from Maurizio Beretta, was elected unanimously by the 20 clubs of Serie A on a proposal from Giovanni Malago, president of the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI).
