April 10 – The Spanish football federation (RFEF) has rescheduled the date for holding an election to finally replace disgrace former FIFA and UEFA veteran powerbroker Angel Villar.
The ballot was supposed to have taken place yesterday but has been switched to May 17 following an order by Spain’s Administrative Court of Sport (TAD) because it clashed with a league fixture meaning not everyone could attend.
FIFA is closely following the situation of the RFEF and has warned elections must take place before May 31. Otherwise, FIFA says, the matter will be referred to its Council meeting on June 10.
Villar was forced to step down in July last year following corruption charges after running the federation since 1988. He was arrested on suspicion of improper management, misappropriation of funds, corruption and falsifying documents and will not be standing for re-election.
