April 24 – They may have been second to the punch in terms of submitting their bid book to host the 2024 European Championship finals but Turkey hope they will be first when the vote takes place in September.
Following rival Germany’s submission earlier this week to UEFA, the Turks have now followed suit with the tournament returning to a single-host format after Euro 2020 is held in 12 cities across Europe.
Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland had considered a joint bid but did not proceed leaving two nations to fight it out.
Turkey has never hosted a major tournament after unsuccessful bids to jointly host Euro 2008 with Greece and the 2012 and 2016 finals on its own.
“It’s now our time, and we are ready to share together with the whole of Europe,” said federation (TFF) president Yildirim Demiroren.
“All guarantees are given without any reservations, including some additional and innovative guarantees that will ensure the financial success of the tournament – thereby benefitting all UEFA member associations.”
Servet Yardımcı, TFF First Vice President and a UEFA Executive Committee Member, said progress had been made since the last time Turkey bid.
“We were fully committed to our bid to host EURO 2016, which we submitted in 2010. Today, eight years later we have stepped up this commitment and are ready to deliver,” he said.
