August 7 – Manchester City will have a new kit supplier from the 2019/20 season as part of a £50 million multi-club deal negotiated by parent company City Football Group.
Puma will take over from Nike at Manchester City and will also provide kit for La Liga side Girona, Australian outfit Melbourne City, Japan’s Yokohama F Marinos and Uruguayan outfit CA Torque.
CFG’s New York City FC franchise is not covered in the agreement as they fall under the collective MLS deal just recently extended with Adidas for a further six years for a reported $600 million.
The Puma deal is a significant uplift for Man City who were getting an estimated £20 million a year under the old Nike deal.
Puma also sponsor Arsenal in a deal worth about £30 million a year.
Man City’s deal will be the third largest in the Premier League behind Chelsea and Manchester United. Chelsea’s deal is reckoned to be worth £60 million a year for 15 years with Nike and was a contract bought out from Adidas in 2016 for a reported £40 million. Manchester United, who are with Adidas, earn £75 million a year in a 10-year agreement signed in 2014.
CFG have yet to officially announce the deal or its composition in terms of cross-group marketing assets.
