August 14 – Montenegro FA president Dejan Savićević has spoken about the dangers of competitive balance in European football as the larger nations grow in concentration of wealth.
Savićević, who played his national team football for the old Yugoslavia and had a club career than included a winning goal for AC Milan in a European Cup final against Barcelona, warns of the polarisation of the game into too few nations.
“I fear that football will break up, like the world, as politics, like Syria or Crimea. I’m not stupid, I’ve been in politics for 10 years, I can see what they’re doing,” said Savićević.
“Football in only five countries, I do not like it.”
Savićević was quoted in a profile of him written by Oliver Villepreux. See the full story at http://contre-pied.blog.lemonde.fr/2018/07/09/dejan-savicevic-linvisible-genie-montenegrin/
