August 23 – Kieran O’Connor has been elected President of the Football Association of Wales, succeeding David Griffiths, who will now become a Life Vice President of the Association.
Former referee O’Connor moves up from the positions of treasurer and assistant secretary.
As part of his new role, O’Connor could take part in the English Football Association’s study into the feasibility of a British bid to host the 2030 World Cup finals.
Although South America are favourites to land the tournament, the chaos enveloping the scandal-hit Uruguayan FA could have a serious impact on its prospective joint hosting with Argentina and Paraguay.
