September 28 – Chicago’s Soldier Field will be the venue for the final of the 2019 Gold Cup on July 7. The tournament, the blue riband national team competition in the Concacaf region, will be played in 15 venues across 13 cities in the US.
This will be the third time the 61,500 capacity Soldier Field has hosted the Gold Cup final, having previously been the final venue in 2007 and 2013. The stadium also hosted Gold Cup matches in 2009, 2011 and 2015. It was a venue for five games at the 1994 World Cup and will likely see World Cup action again in 2026.
“Concacaf is very excited to bring once more our premier tournament to Chicago. This is truly a remarkable city that welcomes and unites fans from across the region, who share the love for our game,” said Concacaf President Victor Montagliani. “Celebrating the final of this expanded edition of Gold Cup at Soldier Field, honors the tradition of a world-class competition that is embedded in the culture of our football fans.”
The 2019 Gold Cup will see an expansion of teams from 12 to 16 for the first time. So far the six teams that played in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Hexagonal qualifier round – Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United States – have qualified, with the remaining 10 teams to come via Concacaf Nations League Qualifiers being played in September, October, and November of 2018, and March of 2019.
