Las Vegas police re-open Ronaldo rape case

October 3 – Police in Las Vegas have re-opened a rape investigation into Cristiano Ronaldo after his accuser claimed she was breaking a non-disclosure agreement.

Neither the woman nor suspect was named by police but German news magazine Der Spiegel says Kathryn Mayorga, a former model, launched legal action in Nevada against Ronaldo, claiming that she was paid a $375,000 settlement in return for nondisclosure.

The lawsuit, which details her claim that Juventus’ Portuguese star attacked her in June 2009, was filed in a 32-page complaint filed in Clark County District Court, Nevada. Agencies say it seeks unspecified damages of at least $200 000 and makes 11 accusations against Ronaldo whose representatives countered that they will take legal action against Der Spiegel.

The magazine claimed Mayorga, who lives in Las Vegas, filed a report with police shortly after the alleged incident. In 2010, she reportedly reached an out-of-court settlement payment for agreeing never to go public with the allegations.

“At the time the report was taken, the victim did not provide detectives with the location of the incident or suspect description,” a police statement said. “As of September 2018, the case has been re-opened and our detectives are following up on information being provided.”
