November 6 – The Spanish FA has decided to keep Andreu Subies (pictured) in his post as vice-president despite the fact that he was recently arrested as part of the same police operation that also saw the federation’s former president and FIFA powerbroker Angel Maria Villar resign on corruption charges.
Subies joined the Spanish FA in May as part of the team put together by Villar’s successor Luis Rubiales but was detained last week as part ‘Operation Soule’ looking into money laundering.
Unlike Villar, however, Subies was released without charge and despite reportedly offering to step down has been retained for the time being.
In a statement the Spanish FA (RFEF) board said it “considers it fundamental to respect the presumption of innocence, and for this reason, it has been determined that Andreu Subies must continue to carry out his work with absolute normality, given that he was released without any precautionary measure.”
