CAF boss Ahmad backtracks on 2021 hosting saying no decision made yet

AFCON trophy

December 18 – Having stripped Cameroon of the 2019 African Cup of Nations,  Confederation of African Football (CAF) boss Ahmad Ahmad has insisted no decision has yet been reached for them to stage 2021 instead and force original hosts Ivory Coast to stage the event two years later.

Ahmad recently was quoted as saying that Cameroon has been offered the 2021 finals instead of Ivory Coast.

That prompted a furious response from the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) which has carried out its threat and has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport .

But Ahmad now insists “no decision” has yet been taken. “We are waiting first for the host for 2019 and then we will see.”

On Saturday CAF confirmed that Egypt and South Africa had both made bids to replace Cameroon for next year’s tournament, with a decision set to be made on January 9.
