January 8 – With his re-election campaign surely very much in mind, Gianni Infantino has embarked on a seven-nation tour of West Africa that started in Guinea last weekend.
In addition to Guinea, Infantino will travel to Guinea-Bissau, Gambia, Senegal, Togo, Benin and Burkina Faso.
In some of these countries, he will visit projects carried out under the FIFA Forward Programme.
So far no-one has come forward to challenge Infantino who seems almost certain to be re-elected in Paris at the FIFA congress in June.
The confederation of African football has already expressed its support but Infantino’s first task is to push through his controversial landscape-changing $25 billion plan for a new global Nations League and a revamped Club World Cup, with a decision set for mid-March.
